Lyons and Highland are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Lions will take on the Huskies at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lyons was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Denver Academy on Thursday. The Lions blew past the Mustangs 17-2. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Wyatt Fitzgerald was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jake LaCrosse was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Lyons' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 2-7 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Leo Irvin, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Lyons was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Highland had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Cougars.
Sawyer Morgan was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was DJ Rogers, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
Highland's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Lyons, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lyons has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Highland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
