Aubrey Chavez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Charli Dixon was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run. Emma Reynolds was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Dixon wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Queen Creek lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, while Highland put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Campo Verde. Highland was the clear victor by a 14-0 margin over Campo Verde. Considering the Hawks have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Cambria Chacon tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Highland got a massive performance out of Abbie Shellabarger, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Shellabarger has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Easton Joslin, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Queen Creek pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Highland, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Queen Creek hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Highland struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Queen Creek took their win against Highland when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0. Will Queen Creek repeat their success, or does Highland has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
