The Gateway Eagles came tearing into Tuesday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They slipped by Lehigh 56-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Tavian Cook was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Davis, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Gateway pushed their record up to 15-2 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Lehigh, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-8.
Gateway will look to defend their home court on Thursday against East Lee County at 7:30 p.m. East Lee County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 504th, while Gateway is ranked 105th). As for Lehigh, they will head out on the road to square off against Fort Myers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
