After flying high against Jefferson last Friday, Chapin came back down to earth. The Chapin Huskies fell to the Canutillo Eagles 36-32. The Huskies' loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, Chapin still got an impressive performance from Jasmine Blake, who went 6 for 15 on her way to 16 points in addition to six boards and six steals. That's the most steals Blake has posted since back in December of 2023. Vanessa Mora was another key player, putting up nine points.
Even though they lost, Chapin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive contests.
Canutillo can attribute much of their success to Mikira Wilkes, who went 6 of 7 en route to 16 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Wilkes has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.
Chapin's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 17-13. As for Canutillo, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-14.
Chapin will host Andress at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Canutillo, they are taking a road trip to square off against Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Canutillo is facing Jefferson at the right time seeing as Jefferson is stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
