The HRK Eagles took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They strolled past Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family with points to spare, taking the game 61-45.
Leading HRK to victory were Molli Ward and Chelsey Gardner . Ward scored 18 points along with 6 rebounds and 6 steals, while Gardner dropped a double-double on 18 points and 10 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tinley Gardner, who scored 8 points along with 6 rebounds.
Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Elizabeth Beto, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 10 rebounds. Beto scored a full 37.8% of Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kayla Mudron, who scored 15 points.
HRK's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
HRK will take on Calumet Christian at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Calumet Christian is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family, they will square off against Rockford FIRE HomeSchool at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
