It may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but the Covenant Eagles ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They skirted past Calvary Baptist Academy 55-53. For Covenant, this counts as revenge for the 56-48 defeat Calvary Baptist Academy walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2023.
Calvary Baptist Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Matthew DeGroff, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 19 rebounds, and James DeGroff who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points DeGroff has scored all season.
Covenant's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Calvary Baptist Academy, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-11.
Covenant will play host again and welcome Teays Valley Christian, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Teays Valley Christian is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. Calvary Baptist Academy will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Mount Hope Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 29th. Mount Hope Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Calvary Baptist Academy likes a good challenge.
