If the Key West Conchs were riding high off their 58-38 takedown of the Sunset Knights last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Key West took a 72-55 bruising from Gulliver Prep on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Key West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 414th, while Gulliver Prep is ranked 71st).
It was another big night for Jacob Marquez, who scored 22 points along with five assists and four steals for Gulliver Prep. Marquez hasn't dropped below three steals for five straight games. Jackson Mansfield was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six assists and four steals.
Key West has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-12 record this season. As for Gulliver Prep, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 16-8.
Key West does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gulliver Prep, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 85-70 victory vs. St. Brendan on the 10th.
