On Wednesday, it was close, but Sunnyside sidestepped Kingsburg for a 51-49 win. Given Sunnyside's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while Kingsburg is ranked 431st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sunnyside to victory, but perhaps none more so than Malachi Barnes, who scored 22 points. The contest was Barnes' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Cj Jones was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Sunnyside is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Kingsburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.
Sunnyside is on the road again on Thursday and play against Garces Memorial at 6:30 p.m. on December 14th. Kingsburg won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Roosevelt at 4:00 p.m. on December 14th. Roosevelt comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
