The Godby Cougars pushed their score all the way to 58 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 66-58 to Rickards. Godby has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Godby had strong showings from Mekhi Butler, who scored 15 points, and Jaden Staten, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Damien Shepherd, who scored eight points.
Leading Rickards to victory were Benjamin Plummer and Romie Cosby. Plummer scored 16 points, while Cosby scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Randall Pompey, who scored ten points.
Godby has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season. As for Rickards, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-5.
Godby will head out on the road to take on Rutherford at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rutherford will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. Rickards won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Milton at 6:00 p.m. on January 20th. Milton will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
