A feisty cat fight will be fought as Brighton Cardinals challenge Munford Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brighton will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Brighton is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Covington with a sharp 17-7 victory on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Chargers: they've now won five in a row.
Laney Lawson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Brighton got a massive performance out of Kaitlyn Chapman, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Chapman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Keegan Stepp, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Brighton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .463. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Munford unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 10-0 to Northpoint Christian.
Munford saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabriel Jones, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double.
Munford's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Brighton, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6-2.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Brighton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .394. However, it's not like Munford struggles in that department as they've averaged .351. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Brighton came out on top in a nail-biter against Munford when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. Will Brighton repeat their success, or does Munford has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
