Freedom is on a 14-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Colonial Forge is on a six-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Freedom Eagles will take on the Colonial Forge Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Freedom walked away with it. They breezed by Potomac Senior at home to the tune of 75-7. Given Freedom's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked third, while Potomac Senior is ranked 117th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jeffrey Overton continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 280 yards and seven touchdowns while picking up 15.6 yards per carry. Overton hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for eight straight games. Tristan Evans-Trujillo was another key contributor, throwing for 253 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Colonial Forge got the win against Gainesville on Friday by a conclusive 49-26.
Their wins bumped Freedom to 10-0 and Colonial Forge to 10-1.
Freedom came out on top in a nail-biter against Colonial Forge in their previous meeting back in September of 2019, sneaking past 30-27. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Colonial Forge's Madden Lowe, who threw for 232 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Freedom to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
