Football Game Preview: Vian Wolverines vs. Wilburton Diggers

Vian is a perfect 3-0 against Wilburton since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wolverines will look to defend their home field against the Diggers at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Vian's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last five contests.

On Thursday, Vian really took it to Henryetta for the full four quarters, racking up a 48-14 win. The victory continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won seven in a row.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Wilburton and Antlers meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Diggers strolled past the Bearcats with points to spare, taking the game 35-18.

Vian better keep an eye on Jason Wilkett. He was instrumental in Wilburton's win, rushing for 219 yards and two TDs while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Wilkett really tore up the turf during one magnificent 86-yard run. Battle Brooks got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Wilburton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Brooks, Troy Johnston, Braiden Grossnicklaus, and Roman Brinlee picked up one apiece. Brooks got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Vian's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Wilburton, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 6-1.

Everything came up roses for Vian against Wilburton when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 56-13 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Wilkett, who rushed for 216 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 15 carries.
