Given Wagner's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while Canyon is ranked 579th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wagner's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lance Johnson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Marcus Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Wagner is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-10 record this season. As for Canyon, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-25.
Wagner will be playing at home against Boerne-Champion at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
