Palm Beach Central is 8-2 against Santaluces since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Palm Beach Central Broncos will square off against the Santaluces Chiefs at 6:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Palm Beach Central had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 18-run drubbing they dealt Leonard on Thursday. Palm Beach Central's pitchers stepped up to hand Leonard an 18-0 shutout. That 18 run margin sets a new team best for the Broncos this season.
Andres Lopes was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Sousa, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.
Palm Beach Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Santaluces came into Thursday's matchup having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on Lake Worth Christian with a sharp 10-0 victory on Thursday. The Chiefs not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since February 18th.
Daniel Vargas was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Zach Raab, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
Palm Beach Central has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. Santaluces picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-11.
Santaluces' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Palm Beach Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Santaluces, though, as they've been averaging only 2.8 strikeouts. Will Palm Beach Central keep running through batters, or will Santaluces buck the trend?
Everything went Palm Beach Central's way against Santaluces when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Palm Beach Central made off with a 10-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Palm Beach Central since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
