Even though the Westlake Charter Explorers scored an imposing 69 points on Thursday, the John Adams Academy Patriots still came out on top. John Adams Academy walked away with a 79-69 win over Westlake Charter. That result was just more of the same for these two, as John Adams Academy also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Leading John Adams Academy to victory were Josh Harris and Isaiah McKee. Harris dropped a double-double on 23 points and 20 rebounds, while McKee dropped a double-double on 31 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which McKee has scored at least a third of John Adams Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Luciano Allen, who scored five points along with three steals.
Several Explorers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brian Ash, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. Ash has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times he's played. Sysco Vela was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with six rebounds.
Westlake Charter struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as John Adams Academy racked up 11 assists.
John Adams Academy's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-14. As for Westlake Charter, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.
John Adams Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Westlake Charter also has no future games currently scheduled.
