Two dominant players in Kindle Rowe and Layni Noonkester are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Reno Huskies will stay at home for another game and welcome the Spanish Springs Cougars at 5:15 p.m. on January 19th. Reno has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Reno posted their closest victory yet this season on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged Galena out 49-46.
Reno got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Yolanda Reyes out in front who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals. Rowe was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Spanish Springs faced Damonte Ranch in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Spanish Springs fell to Damonte Ranch 48-43. Spanish Springs found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up nine fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the loss, Spanish Springs got a solid performance out of Noonkester, who scored 13 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Addison Bowers, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Reno now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Spanish Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-9.
Friday's game is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Reno have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Spanish Springs, though, as they've been averaging only 27.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Reno was taken down by Spanish Springs 66-30 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Spanish Springs' Aaliyah Vance, who scored 18 points along with six steals. Now that Reno knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
