On Wednesday, the Woodson Warriors faced the School Without Walls Penguins in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Woodson fell to the Penguins 56-52. Woodson's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the squad, making it four in a row.
School Without Walls was led to victory by Paul Joire and Chidiire Nwokwu. Joire dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Nwokwu scored 21 points along with four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Nwokwu has scored at least a third of School Without Walls' points. Isaac Wallsten was another key contributor, scoring four points along with ten rebounds.
Woodson has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for School Without Walls, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Woodson will take on the Ramblers at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in District of Columbia (Eastern is ranked 18th, while the Warriors are ranked 25th). As for School Without Walls, they will head out on the road to face off against the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Model Secondary School for the Deaf focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Tuesday.
