Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pebble Hills). They blew past the Montwood Rams 62-21 on Friday. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Joe Fernandez produced another solid effort rushing for 141 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries, while also throwing for 315 yards and two touchdowns while completing 78.9% of his passes. What's more, he posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Zephaniah Moon, who rushed for 122 yards and one TD on only eight carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pebble Hills was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 388 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Another reason for the win was Pebble Hills' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In that department, Jaime Ortega was the leader with 2.5. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with ten.

Despite the loss, Montwood had strong showings from Adrian Cortinas, who picked up 257 receiving yards and a pair of scores, and Damian Briano, who threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns. With that strong performance, Cortinas is now averaging an impressive 112 receiving yards per game.

Pebble Hills' win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Montwood, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Pebble Hills has already played their next matchup, a 17-14 defeat against Eastwood on the 17th. As for Montwood, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 48-35 loss against Coronado on the 17th.
