A new season of 'The Bachelorette' premieres Monday on ABC with Katie Thurston, a 30-year old Washington native, in the lead role. One of the men vying for her attention and heart is no stranger to competing at a high level.
Andrew Spencer, a 26-year old professional athlete, was a standout basketball and football player at
Lakes (Lake Villa, Ill.). He graduated in 2013 before moving on to Winona State University in Minnesota.
Spencer now plays professional football in Europe for the Dacia Vienna Vikings of the Austrian Football League.
Back at Lakes, the reality show contestant was a slick kick and punt returner (see the video above) and helped the Eagles go 18-5 during his junior and senior seasons. He was also a solid contributor on the hardwood, averaging 8.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game as a senior for a team that went 24-7.
Spencer put together a solid career at Winona State, spending five years in the program and piling up 271 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss and 14 interceptions as a defensive back. The school's official site reports that he attended minicamp with the Cleveland Browns.
