The Bonita Springs Bullsharks will challenge the Barron Collier Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bonita Springs is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Bonita Springs is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over Estero. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Landon Ide was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and one double. That home run was his first of the season.
Ide wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Derek Hernandez Jr, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Barron Collier entered their tilt with Naples on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Golden Eagles with a sharp 10-0 win. Considering the Cougars have won nine contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Barron Collier also got a great performance from Andrew Maroney as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave Maroney a new career-high.
At the plate, Jonathan Hernandez Carr and Casey Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Hernandez Carr went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double, while Johnson scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Johnson has posted since back in February. Mason Humphrey was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Bonita Springs pushed their record up to 16-10 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Barron Collier, their record now sits at 19-6.
Bonita Springs came out on top in a nail-biter against Barron Collier in their previous meeting back in February, sneaking past 6-5. Will the Bullsharks repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
