The Heritage Patriots will square off against the Bellmont Braves at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Heritage is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Heritage turned things around against Huntington North on Friday. They walked away with a 13-9 victory over the Vikings.
Heritage let Teaghan O'Shaughnessey and Abriyah James run wild. O'Shaughnessey went 2-for-3 with two runs, while James went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. James has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Libby Cain, who went 1-for-4 with two runs.
Heritage hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 7-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Bellmont walked away with it. They came out on top against the Knights by a score of 9-5 on Monday.
Finnley Godsey was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emily Bleke, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Bellmont is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Heritage, their victory bumped their record up to 14-10.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Heritage hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Bellmont struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
