University is 1-8 against Portola since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The University Trojans will look to defend their home court against the Portola Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
On Tuesday, University ended up a good deal behind Woodbridge and lost 71-56. While losing is never fun, University can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 582nd, while Woodbridge is ranked 128th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Christian Debarge, who scored 16 points along with five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Omar Gawdat, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Portola can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They came out on top against Laguna Hills by a score of 70-57.
University bumped their record down to 7-14 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Portola, their win bumped their record up to 5-17.
University was taken down by Portola 101-62 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point University was down 59-24.
