Thompson is 8-2 against Hillsboro/Central Valley since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Tommies will head out on the road to square off against the H-CV Burros at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Thompson came out on top against Mayville-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run fourth inning. The Tommies blew past the Patriots 14-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tommies.
Morgan Muhs made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Muhs was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
In other batting news, Kya Hurst was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Fiona Hendrickson also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hillsboro/Central Valley). They never let Hankinson/Campbell-Tintah/Fairmount get on the board and left with a 25-0 win on Monday. The H-CV Burros have beaten the Rebels the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Rebels has come to flipping the script.
Like Thompson, Hillsboro/Central Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Megan Ensign. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Ensign has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.
In other batting news, Hillsboro/Central Valley got a massive performance out of Kailee Kittelson, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those five runs gave Kittelson a new career-high. Carsi Hatlestad was another key player, going 4-for-5 with seven RBI and two runs.
Hillsboro/Central Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .795. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Hillsboro/Central Valley pushed their record up to 10-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Thompson, their record is now 11-5.
Everything went Thompson's way against Hillsboro/Central Valley when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Thompson made off with a 20-10 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tommies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
