The Southington Blue Knights will head out on the road to face off against the South Windsor Bobcats at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Southington focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Monday.
Southington's game was all tied up 20-20 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell 47-40 to Berlin. Southington has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Southington's loss came about despite a quality game from Lily Cooper, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Cooper is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Katie Doherty, who scored nine points.
Even though they lost, Southington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berlin only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
South Windsor suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Monday. They were the victim of a rough 42-18 defeat at the hands of Conard. While losing is never fun, South Windsor can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Conard is ranked fifth).
Southington now has a losing record at 6-7. As for South Windsor, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.
Southington was able to grind out a solid win over South Windsor in their previous matchup back in December of 2021, winning 54-46. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southington since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
