Andrews has gone 9-1 against Fort Stockton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mustangs will be playing at home against the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Andrews' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Fort Stockton's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Andrews' offense. They fell just short of Seminole by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday. The Mustangs' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Trace Garica was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Those hits marked the first that he allowed this season.
On the hitting side, Andrews saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Munoz, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Fort Stockton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-4 margin over Pecos. Considering the Panthers have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Rylan Nunez and Gerry Diaz were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Nunez struck out 11 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Meanwhile, Diaz tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Fort Stockton is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 9-11 otherwise. At the plate, Nunez fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-6, while Diaz went 4-for-6 with one home run and one double. Those four hits gave Diaz a new career-high.
In other batting news, Gama Corral was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances.
Fort Stockton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .442. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pecos only posted a batting average of .306.
The victory made it two in a row for Fort Stockton and bumps their season record up to 13-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Andrews, their loss dropped their record down to 15-11.
Andrews came out on top in a nail-biter against Fort Stockton in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
