The Mariner Tritons can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They managed a 62-57 win over Hawthorne. The win was just what Mariner needed coming off of a 71-51 loss in their prior matchup.
Mariner got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Marcus Kelley Jr out in front who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and five assists. The game was Kelley Jr's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Asher Hercek, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds.
Hawthorne's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Caleb Rollerson, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds, and Leland Johnson who scored 19 points. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyler Ingram, who scored seven points.
Mariner now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Hawthorne, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing North Marion the next time they take the court. Mariner will host North Marion at 1:47 p.m. on Friday, while Hawthorne will head out to face them at 1:47 p.m. on Saturday.
