The Pelham Panthers lost against the Homewood Patriots back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Pelham fell 31-21 to Homewood. Pelham was down 28-7 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
When it comes to explaining why Pelham lost, one person who can't be blamed is Clayton Mains. Despite the final result, he threw for 211 yards and three touchdowns.
Homewood got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Evan Ausmer out in front who rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Aj Crear was in the mix as well, providing Homewood with two touchdowns.
Pelham's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 5-5. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Homewood, Benjamin Russell, and Briarwood Christian. As for Homewood, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pelham will take on Chilton County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Homewood, they will stay at home for another week and welcome Briarwood Christian. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alabama (Briarwood Christian is ranked 52nd, while Homewood is ranked 55th).
