Last Saturday, Putnam County was able to grind out a solid win over Morgan County, taking the game 55-44. 55 seems to be a good number for Putnam County as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Putnam County's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kamyra Aikens, who scored 13 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 assists, and Journey Waller, who scored 14 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. The game was Waller's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Kadyn Dennis was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 7 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Laney beat Greenbrier 47-39 back in November. Given Laney's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while Greenbrier is ranked 366th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Putnam County's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.5 points per game. As for Laney, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.
Putnam County and Laney were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in January, but Putnam County came up empty-handed after a 55-54 defeat. Can Putnam County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
