The Mendon Unity Mustangs will take on the Augusta Southeastern Suns at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Mendon Unity took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 7-4 win over Hamilton/Warsaw.
Mendon Unity saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Simon Rabe, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run. Blake Arnsman also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Augusta Southeastern had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with an 8-3 victory over Seymour on Wednesday. The Suns' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Griffin Tippey made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over 6.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Augusta Southeastern is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-6 otherwise. Tippey was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brady McClintock, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Aundre Roberts, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Augusta Southeastern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seymour only managed six hits.
Mendon Unity's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Augusta Southeastern, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-7.
Mendon Unity took their victory against Augusta Southeastern in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
