Ridgemont hasn't had much luck against Upper Scioto Valley recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Golden Gophers will host the Rams at 5:00 p.m. Ridgemont is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Ridgemont and Ada meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Golden Gophers were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Bulldogs. The result was nothing new for the Golden Gophers, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.
Xavier Stuck made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jon Cromer, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Maddox Thompson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Upper Scioto Valley came up short against Riverdale on Thursday, falling 15-4.
Upper Scioto Valley saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Thompson, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those hits marked the first that Thompson has got this season.
Ridgemont's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Upper Scioto Valley, they dropped their record down to 2-5 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Ridgemont has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Upper Scioto Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Ridgemont suffered a grim 11-5 defeat to Upper Scioto Valley when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Golden Gophers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
