Columbia Central and Lumen Christi Catholic are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Golden Eagles will be playing at home against the Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Columbia Central's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Manchester as they made off with a 10-0 win. The Golden Eagles' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Hailey Wetherby made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kelsey Fausz, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs. Another player making a difference was Raell Bice, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Lumen Christi Catholic came out on top against Ovid-Elsie on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run first inning. The Titans were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Marauders.
Bella Wrozek spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks.
On the hitting side, Lumen Christi Catholic got a massive performance out of Lily Ganton, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Mallory Arcaro was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Lumen Christi Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .425. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ovid-Elsie only posted a batting average of .160.
Lumen Christi Catholic pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 11.7 runs this season. As for Columbia Central, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Columbia Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .477. However, it's not like Lumen Christi Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .511. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Columbia Central beat Lumen Christi Catholic 10-5 in their previous matchup back in April of 2018. Will the Golden Eagles repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
