On Thursday, the Manchester Lancers faced the James River Midlothian Rapids in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Manchester strolled past James River Midlothian with points to spare, taking the game 61-45. The win was nothing new for Manchester as they're now sitting on three straight.
Manchester was led to victory by Rayne Wright and Mia Woolfolk. Wright scored 20 points along with two steals, while Woolfolk dropped a double-double on 24 points and 18 rebounds. Wright is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Smith, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Manchester's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. As for James River Midlothian, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-2.
Manchester will be playing in front of their home fans against Powhatan at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Powhatan will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 227th, while Manchester is ranked second). As for James River Midlothian, they will head out on the road to challenge Richmond City School of the Arts at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
