Seneca is 0-10 against Mercyhurst Prep since May of 2019 but things could change on Wednesday. The Bobcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lakers at 4:00 p.m. Seneca has given up an average of 10.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Monday, Seneca came up short against Youngsville and fell 11-7. The Bobcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Michael Peterson led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season. Greg Rupp was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Mercyhurst Prep never let their opponents score on Monday. Everything went their way against Iroquois as they made off with a 15-0 win. Considering the Lakers have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Zack Kruszewski, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Ashton, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Mercyhurst Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Iroquois only posted a batting average of .000.
Mercyhurst Prep's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Seneca, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Seneca has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mercyhurst Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Seneca suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Mercyhurst Prep in their previous meeting on April 10th. Will the Bobcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
