6A District 11 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Island Coast was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 6A District 11. The Gators defeated North Fort Myers 48-0 earlier in the week.
South Fort Myers extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Bishop Verot, 56-3. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
T.J. Douglas put up the best numbers through the air as Fort Myers topped Riverdale. He finished with one completions for 17 yards and one touchdown. Douglas' favorite target this week was Eric Briggs, who caught one pass for 17 yards.
T.J. Johnson was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 262 yards on 10 carries as Island Coast bested the Red Knights. Teammate JD Irons added to the ground attack by rushing for 94 yards.
Diaz was the best wideout in 6A District 11 this week as Joe Bowen's team bested North Fort Myers. Diaz racked up one reception for 32 yards. Nick Ghigliotty helped Island Coast's passing attack out by catching one ball for 13 yards.
Island Coast's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Gators feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Kurt Benkert has thrown for 848 yards and eight touchdowns this season, while Ter'Rohne Franklin has 15 catches for 315 yards. Devon Calhoun leads the league in rushing with 425 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Gators take on Ida Baker. Island Coast is currently in third, while the Bulldogs are in fourth.
The Raiders moved up to 178 from 222 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 15-0 win over Riverdale helped Riverdale improve its standing.
