Itawamba Agricultural suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after topping Pontotoc. The Indians had been ranked 24th, but fell to 26.
Itawamba Agricultural extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region 1 this week by beating the Warriors, 42-13. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Indians.
Amory's dynamic duo of Jon David Poss and Dario Robinson proved tough for Shannon to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Poss threw for 263 yards and two touchdowns and Robinson had 147 yards receiving. Devin McIntosh helped Amory's passing attack out by catching four balls for 49 yards.
Ashton Shumpert was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 216 yards on 14 carries as Itawamba Agricultural defeated the Red Raiders. Charles Moore also contributed to the rushing game with 109 yards on the ground.
Amory's Poss and McIntosh have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Poss has thrown for 1967 yards this season, while McIntosh, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 31 catches for 712 yards. Shannon's Diamante Pounds leads the league in rushing yards with 1129.
The top two teams in 4A Region 1 will face off this week when first place Itawamba Agricultural takes on second place Amory. Last week, the Indians bested Pontotoc, while Trent Hammond's team defeated Darryl Carter's team.
