Softball Recap: Wakeland Snags Seventh Victory in Last Eight Games

Wakeland won the last time they faced The Colony and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Wolverines blew past the Cougars 17-1. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Wakeland got a great performance from Jordan Mcnees as she tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Claire Schreiner, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Kinney, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Wakeland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .432. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as The Colony only posted a batting average of .158.

Wakeland is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for The Colony, their loss dropped their record down to 5-11.

Looking ahead, Wakeland will challenge Newman Smith at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wolverines are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a 17-game losing streak. As for The Colony, a feisty cat fight will be fought as The Colony Cougars challenge Reedy Lions at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Reedy will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight.
