The Ponderosa Bruins will venture away from home to take on the Rio Americano Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Ponderosa is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Ponderosa barely beat Christian Brothers the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Everything went Ponderosa's way against Christian Brothers on Wednesday as Ponderosa made off with a 17-7 victory. The win continues a trend for the Bruins in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won five in a row.
Kate McCartney was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Bella Adams, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4.
Ponderosa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Rio Americano, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Oakmont 16-15. The Raiders' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
The team relied heavily on T Callas, who scored three runs and stole Four bases. while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Nik Callas was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Ponderosa's record now sits at 4-6. As for Rio Americano, their record is now 4-9.
Rio Americano's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Ponderosa has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Rio Americano, though, as they've been averaging 9.9 hits. Given Ponderosa's sizable advantage in that area, Rio Americano will need to find a way to close that gap.
Ponderosa beat Rio Americano 7-2 when the teams last played back in March of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ponderosa since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
