After flying high against the Fremont Tigers on Thursday, the Papillion-LaVista Monarchs came back down to earth. Papillion-LaVista fell just short of Marian by a score of 65-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Papillion-LaVista's loss on Saturday came despite strong showings from Rease Murtaugh and Taliyah Jackson. Murtaugh scored 22 points along with 3 steals, while Jackson scored 17 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Murtaugh scored a full 34.9% of Papillion-LaVista's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dru Zoucha, who scored 12 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Marian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madison Stover, who scored 16 points along with 5 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Anna Cramer, who scored 11 points.
Papillion-LaVista's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Marian, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Papillion-LaVista will be playing at home against Elkhorn South at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Marian, they will head out on the road to face off against Papillion-LaVista South at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Papillion-LaVista South focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Saturday.
