Basketball Game Preview: Elm Creek Buffaloes vs. Overton Eagles

The Elm Creek Buffaloes will head out on the road to challenge the Overton Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Elm Creek will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Last Tuesday, Elm Creek got the win against Ravenna by a conclusive 70-45. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Buffaloes have posted against the Bluejays since January 24, 2017.

Elm Creek got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Quin Oberg out in front who went 9 for 16 on his way to 22 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. The game was Oberg's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Caleb Reiter, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Overton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They came out on top against Shelton by a score of 63-55 on Tuesday.

Overton's win came from a few key players Elm Creek will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brock McCarter, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. Eli Luther was another key player, going 6 of 14 en route to 16 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Elm Creek pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for Overton, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.

Elm Creek was able to grind out a solid win over Overton in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, winning 70-60. Does Elm Creek have another victory up their sleeve, or will Overton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
