It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Walker Valley had no problem doing just that on Friday. They didn't even let the Oakland Patriots on the board, marking their second-straight 1-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but the Mustangs sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
The result came thanks to Olivia Presswood's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Vanessa Byers was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
Walker Valley's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 32-8. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Oakland, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 24-7-2.
As of now, neither Walker Valley nor the Patriots have any future games scheduled.
