Argyle waltzed into their contest on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 25-20 W against the Mansfield Summit Jaguars. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Eagles also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2024.
Argyle's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Maguire Gasperson led the charge by throwing for 220 yards while completing 80% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground. A healthy portion of Gasperson's aerial production (140 yards to be exact) went to Julian Caldwell.
Argyle didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Mansfield Summit to a completion percentage of just 50%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from six players: Sager Zamzow, Landon Howald, Chase Bagley, Maliek Bracy, Nathaniel Bruce, and Mateus Lafayette, who each logged one passes deflected. Given Gasperson's standout performance, it's clear Mansfield Summit's secondary just wasn't on the same level.
Argyle didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Bagley and Bracy. Brody Bomar was another major factor on D, making 17 total tackles.
Mansfield Summit's loss came despite strong showings from Ian Gebhardt and Adarion Nettles. Gebhardt rushed for 144 yards and one TD, while Nettles rushed for 105 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Nettles' rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 105 rushing yards.
Argyle's record is now 6-1. As for Mansfield Summit, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-2.
