Section 1 B recap Sept. 26, 2012
Pleasantville was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 10th to fourth in Section 1 B. Earlier in the week, the Panthers triumphed over Putnam Valley 7-0.
Edgemont moved up to 253 from 382 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Panthers climbed the ranks as a result of a 49-0 win over Roosevelt.
The Tigers' dynamic duo of Mike Walsh and John Meagle proved tough for Pleasantville to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Walsh threw for 56 yards and Meagle had 33 yards receiving. Tommy O'Sullivan helped Putnam Valley's passing attack out by catching one ball for 14 yards.
Ben Gelfand was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 87 yards on six carries as Croton-Harmon lost to Tony Becerra's team. Trevor Wolstencroft also contributed to the rushing game with 41 yards on the ground.
Ardsley's Carlos Monserrate and Gabe Kardish have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Section 1 B in both passing and receiving yards. Monserrate has thrown for 278 yards this season, while Kardish, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has seven catches for 166 yards. Dan Bassi from Westlake leads the league in rushing with 243 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Tigers take on Our Lady of Lourdes. Croton-Harmon is currently in third, while the Warriors are in first.
Nanuet and Pearl River played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Nanuet eventually emerging with a 15-13 victory.
