III Section I recap September 24, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in III Section I this week, Peoria beat Greenway 28-14,. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Cactus and Sunrise Mountain played the most contested game in the league this week, with Cactus eventually emerging with a 34-31 victory. Talal Yousufzai ran for 177 yards during the win.
Peoria's dynamic duo of Dillon Gragnano and Darius Aguirre proved tough for the Demons to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Gragnano threw for 201 yards and 2 touchdowns and Aguirre had 164 yards receiving. Nagi Clark helped Peoria's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 37 yards.
The Panthers' dynamic duo of Gragnano and Aguirre proved to be unstoppable against Greenway, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Aguirre was the best wideout in the league this week as Peoria defeated KJ Anthony's team.
He was 11-20 with 1 interception.
Kooper Ray provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Goldwater beat Independence. He completed 17 passes for 245 yards and also ran for 144 yards. Ray's favorite target this week was Alex Centa, who caught 5 passes for 78 yards.
Gragnano put up the best numbers through the air as the Panthers defeated the Demons.
Kyle Contreras was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Mustangs fell to the Cobras. The 6-foot-1 defensive end.
Yousufzai was the best running back in III Section I this week. Austin Marshall also contributed to the rushing game with 130 yards on the ground.
6-foot-1 quarterback Kade Greenhalgh of Greenway is the league leader in passing yards this season with 725. He has also thrown 11 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Aguirre. The Peoria star has 24 catches for 463 yards.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when the Demons and Cactus face off next week.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Greenway takes on Larry Fetkenhier's team. The Demons are currently in third, while the Cobras are in second.
The Patriots fell to the Bulldogs 54-32 last week, the largest margin of any game.
