The Sinton Pirates lost against the Jones Trojans back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Sinton opened the new year with a less-than-successful 40-31 loss to Jones. While losing is never fun, Sinton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1197th, while Jones is ranked 445th).
Jones was led to victory by Abby Del Bosque and Kaydence Menchaca. Del Bosque scored 12 points along with nine rebounds, while Menchaca scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. That's the first time this season that Menchaca posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was CeeCee Dembo, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Sinton bumped their record down to 3-15 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.6 points per game. As for Jones, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 14-10 record this season.
Sinton will head out on the road to face off against Calhoun at 1:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Jones, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rockport-Fulton at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
