Softball Recap: St. Paul Catholic Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

St. Paul Catholic waltzed into their match on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Wilby Wildcats as they made off with a 16-1 win. That's more bragging rights for the Falcons, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Harley Emmendorfer made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Peighton Giambra looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.

Back at the plate, Breyona Demora was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Kozlak, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

St. Paul Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive games.

St. Paul Catholic pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Wilby, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. St. Paul Catholic will square off against rival Holy Cross at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Falcons 3, the Crusaders 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Wilby is set to challenge their familiar foe Kennedy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
