Pineville dropped their record down to 4-9 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Cumberland Gap Panthers, falling 18-6. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Noah Slone was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Taylor, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
As for Cumberland Gap, with the victory, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 11-15. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
On Cumberland Gap's side, Tate Murphy was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Murphy also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Cumberland Gap is 6-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-13 otherwise. Murphy was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three runs.
In other batting news, Hudson Harris was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Cumberland Gap: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-14 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Noah Meyer, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Pineville will host Middlesboro at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mountain Lions are facing the Yellowjackets at the right time seeing as the Yellowjackets are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. Cumberland Gap does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
