Basketball Recap: Chaparral Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Chaparral can finally bid farewell to their 12-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Wednesday. They walked away with a 31-21 win over the Cristo Rey St. Viator Royals. The Cowboys have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Royals, too.

Leading Chaparral to victory were Trinity Leemon and Zamariyah Walker. Leemon dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds, while Walker posted six points in addition to seven steals and six rebounds. With that strong performance, Walker is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game.

Chaparral smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Chaparral's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Cristo Rey St. Viator, they dropped their record down to 0-5 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chaparral will square off against Moapa Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Moapa Valley will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Chaparral surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cristo Rey St. Viator, they will face off against Mater Academy East Las Vegas at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Mater Academy East Las Vegas is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.2 points per game this season.
