The Calvary Day Cavaliers will challenge the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Things were looking good for Calvary Day after they put the first points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They and Oceanside Collegiate Academy were almost perfectly matched up, but Calvary Day suffered a 16-15 defeat. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 90th in Georgia, while the Landsharks are ranked 18th in South Carolina).
Despite the loss, Calvary Day had strong showings from Thomas Blackshear, who picked up 137 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Caden Jones, who rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown.
Even if they lost, Calvary Day's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Oceanside Collegiate Academy's QB won't forget Cutter Powell anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Powell also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up two sacks, making 12 total tackles (2.5 for loss), and defending a pass.
Meanwhile, Southeast Bulloch humbled Islands with a 43-7 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Yellow Jackets.
Quentin Reed was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 49 yards and two touchdowns. Chase Douglas got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Southeast Bulloch was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 252 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Islands only rushed for 121.
Southeast Bulloch's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. Douglas picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown.
Calvary Day's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 1-1. As for Southeast Bulloch, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
