Video: High school football in the spring?Steve Montoya discusses possibility on CBS Sports HQ.
Iowa is the only state currently playing high school sports as its summer baseball and softball seasons are in progress and two weeks away from the postseason.
An
ESPN report from Elizabeth Merrill over the weekend indicated that ongoing action in the Hawkeye State hasn't been untouched by coronavirus, however.
Merrill reports that 25 of 338 baseball teams and 20 softball teams have encountered some type of exposure to COVID-19.
The
Des Moines Register reported Wednesday that the state's top-ranked Class 4A baseball team,
Dowling Catholic (West Des Moines), has ended its season after a member of the team tested positive for COVID-19.
The school's softball team is also ending its season.
MaxPreps was on hand June 15 as the season got underway a month later than originally scheduled. Those initial baseball and softball contests in Iowa were the first high school sports events since the pandemic shut things down in March.
