The Shonto Prep Grizzlies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their tenth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a rough 89-46 loss at the hands of Seligman. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Shonto Prep in their matchups with the Antelopes: they've now lost four in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Shonto Prep lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bronson Deschine. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That was a full 47.8% of Shonto Prep's points, marking the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Erol Norton, who scored two points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Seligman was led to victory by Carmelo Manakaja and Montae Walker. Manakaja dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 assists, while Walker scored 34 points along with seven steals and five assists. Walker is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 21 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Quilan O'Brien, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Shonto Prep dropped their record down to 1-13 with that loss, which was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.1 points per game. As for Seligman, the win got them back to even at 14-14.
Shonto Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Seligman will head out on the road to take on the Yeti at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Basis focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 last Saturday.
